Having completed the day skipper course with Marcus I highly recommend Polka Sailing. The combination of 6 evening classes and a weekend session gave me time to consolidate the information using Polkas own unique online learning modules before the next class. There is a lot of information to take in on the day skipper course, but Marcus has the course well structured. This course was undertaken via Zoom calls twice a week with homework at weekends. And then 2 tests, chartwork against the clock solo and a group test covering the remainder of the course.
Marcus evidently has a deep knowledge of sailing and, notwithstanding conducting lessons over Zoom, was able to convey a combination of charisma and technical detail to the group. He is a patient and approachable tutor who can spot the pitfalls and traps that typical students make in advance in order to provide the them with confidence to navigate round them.
It was an excellent course and I look forward to completing the practical part with him on the water in due course.

I highly recommend Marcus Wareham as RYA on line instructor. His easy manner , depth of knowledge and teaching style made the course extremely enjoyable .
The combination of online zoom meeting tuition and on line exercises created by Marcus really ensured understanding of all the areas covered . I am not sure that I would have been able to commit to the 40 hours of teaching and the homework had it not been provided on line . I do think that the commitment to meeting times each week , ensure that this is an online course that you will complete.
I successfully completed the course feeling that I had a true understanding of all that was taught and a great sense of achievement. Looking forward to learning some more with Marcus and Polka Sailing in the future .Thank you

Really great course. The remote on line system works for me as you can dial in for the lesson wherever you are (caught late in the office). The interactive exercises are also great as the immediate feedback allows you to refine your understanding (or not ) prior to the next lesson. All the benefits of set classes but also the flexibility not to have to get to a classroom in rush hour !
The content was delivered really well and in a logical manner and pace by someone who has evidently taught people with varied experience and learning needs!.

This is an excellent course well organised and fun with 6 evenings from 6pm to 10pm and 1 weekend finishing bit before 4pm Sat and Sunday. – great instruction making it all very practical and fun – learnt a lot and good to do it in a group as everyone helps each other. I’ve just finished doing day skipper with Marcus over the weekend. I had been tempted to do the course online but I’m glad I didn’t. It was much better having Marcus there to explain the theory and discuss how things have worked for him with his previous experiences.
